Camp Misty Meadows - Conroe, Texas

I worked six summers at Camp Misty Meadows, my first summer was when I began to hear talk of the Dimond ghost, or ghosts. And as I continued to come back spending a total of one year there I learned that Dimond was not the only unit that carried a ghost or two. I have seen grown tough Rangers who would not step foot into Horseshoe alone. But let's start at the beginning, at least the beginning as I know it.

Long before the camps were there a friend of mine grew up in on that land. The front where the 'haunted hosue' Smoking House was, stood a old grocery store. My friend swares nothing happened there but it was nothing but woods then, there is no way she could know what people who snuck into the unguarded at the time woods did.

My story however begins at the age of 15, I was in the furthest possible unit there was; Lowe for the majority of the summer. Dispite being way back in the woods I do not recall anything ever happening there, though that was the only unit of the six I could say that for. As the summer progressed I began to hear about stories from other counsalers all of whom were assigned Dimond. Tails of a gril walking around, doors slamming shut things like this. It all of couse caught my intrest. We were coming up up the last week of camp and I was walking to the lodge for lunch when I stopped in front of Dimond. I remember thinking that It would be awsome if I could go to that unit. Not five minutes later the camp director pulled me to the side, she told me that a fellow counsaler from Dimond had a family emergency and that she needed me to move to Dimond right away...

I remember a chill running down my spine if that was a couinsadence it was an offly well timed, strange one. I of course said okay thinking I was ready for what awated me. Right...! I moved in and things started fairly soon ater that. The little things I had heard about, doors slaming in my face. In the counsalers bathroom there are two sections. You open the first door and your inthe sink area, open the next one and your in the single shower/toilet area. Both doors could be locked. When taking a shower I locked both doors behind me, especaly if I was alone. Yet no matter what I placed up against the door I would always here someone knocking on the second door. Upon further inspection the things blocking the first door had not been moved.

During the night, a white mist would float by and it was in my second night that the scream was heard from the room next to mine where two of the four counsalers of Dimond slept. My roomate and I ran next door only to find a girl who looked EXACTLY like a fellow counsaler sitting on the desk. She just sat ther before dissapearing into thin air. I'm not sure how they slept in that room that night.

That last week we had Brownies (very young) children in the unit. Now normaly the babies go to horseshoe, but this was the one week things were different. So the kids did not understand when banging on the windows were heard but know one was in site.

The biggest thing for me perhaps to happen that week was the very last night there. We were heading for dinner but could not get the poarch light to turn on no matter what we tried. The lights had been turning strange colors (mainly red) all summer but today they refused to turn on. We had no idea we would be coming back after dark so we did not take our flashlights. The night however came and it seemed unnaturaly dark. I had the kids form a buddy line and had them hang on to the person in front of them as we slowly made are way through pitch dark to our very dark unit. I made it almost bumpinging into several poles but only my vast knowlage of he camp after dark saved me there. I walked in towards the wall where the vast number of light switches (One for each light bulb it seemed) was located. I put my hand over the switches but befoe I could touch a switch every single light in the unit turned on of there own accord, there switchs still pointing downword. The seven or eight kids who were beside me by now looked up at me in wide eyed wonder.

"How did you do that Guppy?" One of the asked. I told them it was magic before sending them to bed, I was really shaking after that one. That was the last night I ever stayed in Dimond, but not my last adventure there.
